Recipe for Italian Salad Dressing Mix

I have recently begun making all of my own salad dressings in an effort to avoid genetically modified ingredients (among other things).   It has been hard to find good, tasty recipes and mixes!  I love to use this versatile recipe for Italian salad dressing mix on pizza bianco, as a marinade for chicken, and on salads.

My hunt for a good recipe for Italian salad dressing mix came to an end recently when I found this one from Donielle.  I have modified it slightly only because I have been out of garlic salt!

1 T of garlic powder

1 T dried minced onion

½ T organic sugar (I don’t use this every time)

2 T dried oregano

1 tsp ground black pepper

¼  tsp dried thyme

1 tsp dried basil

2 T salt

I actually usually double this recipe and keep it stored with my herbs and spices in a glass jar.

For salad dressing, I mix it together 2T of the mix with ¼ c vinegar, 1/3 c extra virgin olive oil, and ¼ – 1/3 c water.  Store in a glass jar in the fridge!

for the “dried” herbs, how do you substitute those with ground herbs that are store-bought? I always seem to mess that up….

Honestly, sometimes I just guess, but often times I’ve seen measurements given when the fresh herb isn’t around.
