You’re Off the Hook…

Due to a busy week, exhaustion, and just poor planning…no weekend reading for you this week.  So, you can take a break from learning and just relax.  :)

My husband is taking me to Dollywood today.  I’m an East Tennessean now, so I suppose he figures I need to have the experience.  I’m looking forward to it, but I have to confess feeling a little…well, redneckish?  I know I shouldn’t,  but I don’t know if this Yankee girl will ever be a fully converted southerner.  Up north, they don’t have amusement parks named after country music stars, just chocolate.  :)   Nevertheless, he is excited to take me and since we are childless today (first time ever this long without Brant!)  is planning hoping to take me on all the “fun” rides that I don’t like (drop towers, upside down roller coasters…).  We’ll see about that.   I want to do a challenge course with him.

After a birthday dinner for Blane’s mom last night, I handed the kids off to her.  Brant has never been put down by anyone else, let alone at bed-time.  But, he apparently did great.  So, I breathed a sigh of relief and am able to enjoy our time together more readily.  I know they’ll have fun and I hope his mom survives!  :)

Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend!

When I Fail As a Mother (or, When Grace Interrupts)

Today I failed.  I was harsh and sinned in anger toward my daughter.  The details don’t matter, but what does matter is that I absolutely hate my sin am in awe of the grace which enveloped me later as I felt condemned. Continue reading

“Loot Mommy, I’m Det-ur-ating!”

I ran into Hobby Lobby the other day to get supplies for a wedding gift I’ve been asked to make and saw the 50% off sale on all of the fall decor.  I didn’t have much time to look around, but decided to make a trip over the weekend when I’d have more time to peruse the goods.  Continue reading

The Mission of Motherhood: Ch. 9 – Keeper of the Domain

We are almost to the end of the book!  Have you enjoyed reading it?  It is my favorite book (thus far) on mothering.  If you haven’t picked up a copy yet, I’d encourage you to do so today!  It is a book I will pull off the shelf many times (and already have) through my journey. Continue reading

I Just *Love* These Guys!

Please look past the poor photo quality (I don’t happen to own an SLR), and do look right at the cuteness and life in these two!  I love how these pictures capture Brant’s excitement about being outside!  Too bad there is no sound for you to hear how much he enjoys being outside.  Squeals of delight are a regular occurrence when we venture to the out of doors.  :)

Weekend Reading – 8/27/10

The weather here in East TN has been absolutely gorgeous this week.  Low humidity, 80s…it almost feels like fall!  :)   It’s been fun to get outside with the kids more and I have been thinking of fun fall recipes, clothes, and activities.  It is almost September.

Yes, I live in East TN. This was taken from my front porch.

The Mission of Motherhood: Ch 8 – Gardener of Souls

Motherhood is about the mundane.   The daily ins and outs of life that are often repetitive and necessary take up most of our time.  But in addition to the mundane is the very important task of seeding, watering, and weeding the soul.  Any gardener knows that those tasks are also repetitive an necessary for a healthy garden.  If left undone, ugly weeds grow more quickly than we think. Mission of Motherhood: Ch. 7 – Strong Friend

strong friend

Source: SXC

In these early years of parenting, when training and discipline seem to fill my days, it’s hard to imagine future friendship with my children (quite possibly because at 1 and 3, I can’t imagine what they will be like at 10, 18, or 25!).  But I hope that one day, when the hard work of the early years and the enduring work of the later years bid my time as the primary nurturer, caregiver, teacher, trainer, etc…farewell, I will have laid solid foundation for strong friendships with each of my children. Happy Birthday, Tara!

I can’t believe that today we are celebrating Tara’s third birthday.  In some respects it seems like I just found out I was pregnant with her.  God blessed us far more than I imagined in the birth and life of this little girl.

happy birthday, tara
