Interview with Paul Tripp, Part 1

No, I did not have the privilege of interviewing Paul Tripp myself, but have really benefited from listening/watching the interview that Desiring God Ministries did recently.  I want to share the highlights with you (that applied to me in this season of life with small children) with the hope that it will edify you!

5 of My Favorite, Most Used Kitchen Gadgets

I seem to be in list mode, have you noticed?  I often times think best in the form of lists.  My husband would laugh at me for saying that.  He saw me filling out a sheet of paper the other day – a list nonetheless – and said, “I bet you really like that, huh?”  I looked at him and asked what he meant.  He said, “It’s a list.  You love lists.  It’s helping you organize.”

I digress.

In my kitchen, there are gadgets and appliances that I seem to use constantly.  Are you the same way?  Things that would make life in the kitchen much more difficult if I didn’t own them.  Now, I’m not going to list things like my oven or stove, because, well, that’s a given.  I don’t use a microwave (!!) so I use my range all the time.   In no particular order, here are my favorite standby kitchen gadgets and appliances:cast iron skillet

1.  Cast iron skillet – it stays on my stove!  I have a large 10-inch size, but I’d love a smaller one also.

2.   Pampered Chef measuring spoons – I have the teaspoons and tablespoon measurements

3.  Bosch Universal Mixer – while I don’t use the mixer everyday, I almost always use the blender attachment daily.  It is the best I’ve ever used!

4.  Simple glass pitcher – we buy distilled water (and re-mineralize it), but I don’t like keeping it in the unattractive gallon jug it comes in.  I love adding a simple, personal touch buy keeping a pitcher of water on my counter all the time.

5.  Glass jars.  I use them for everything!  I love not only that they are safe for food storage, but that are a great way to decorate!

What do you use daily that you could not live without?

Zucchini Pancakes and Homemade Maple Syrup

Two typical Zucchini

My mother-in-law gave us a huge bag of zucchini, squash, and cucumbers on Friday.  Guess what was for dinner that night?  Zucchini pancakes.  It is one of my summertime favorites!  Since you’ll probably be enjoying zucchini at some point this summer, especially if you have a garden, this might be a recipe your family will like Continue reading

Weekend Reading – 6/18

Have a wonderful Father’s Day weekend!  A short list of posts below worth reading when you get a chance!  They were helpful and encouraging to me.

I just picked up some free pork chops from Earth Fare which we will enjoy with yummy squash casserole and a salad.  The kids and I will celebrate God’s grace to us in the gift of Blane, a wonderful father and husband.  To help, Tara and I will be making this delicious sounding Coconut brownies and coconut ice cream.  I’ll let you know how it turns out!

Health & Nutrition

Roast Chicken, Chicken Stock, and leftover chopped & frozen chicken…all from one bird! – This is a very helpful post written by a good friend of mine about using one chicken to stretch over several meals!

Preparing for the First Trimester – I loved this post.  It’s right up my alley!  I have sought to be prepared for babies coming, but did not do a good job of preparing for the many weeks of feeling yucky during the first trimester of pregnancy.  I have been thinking through what I need to do to prepare for another (Lord willing!) pregnancy.

Your Expectations of You: Somethings Got to Give – This is not a recent post.  But, it’s worth reading for all of us moms who tend to have unrealistic expectations of ourselves.

I strive to be consistent across the board in my pursuit of health.  I seek to eat well and avoid unnatural ingredients in my food.   Also, in everything I come into contact with (so far as I have control over it), I aim to keep it natural.  That’s why I’m excited to tell you about my favorite mineral based makeup!  I have been using it for about 15 months now and I love it.  Continue reading

5 Favorite Christian Children’s Books

We love to read.  My husband loves to read, I love to read, and Tara loves to read for us to read to her.  I desire for my children to grow up to be readers.  Not only is reading a lifelong skill, but it is also one that provides even more opportunity to see and savor Christ.  We have a large library of children’s books and we enjoy many of them several times a day.  From educational books, to the Bible, biographies, and even fiction books, we have a wide selection of enjoyable reads. Weekend Reading – 6/11

We are in beautiful Charleston, SC enjoying a surprise vacation that I sprung on my family this week.  We’ve had fun at the beach, spending the better part of today on a pontoon boat with friends, and dare I say it–splurging and enjoying foods that we don’t regularly eat.  You only live once, right?

Yesterday morning I enjoyed a run in the historic downtown with my favorite little running companion.  If you’re a runner, do you know about the site Map My Run?  It’s fantastic for when you’re on trips.  I mapped out a route last night so I could just go this morning.  My little guy has been waking up long before everyone else, so to keep it quiet around here for Blane and Tara, we’ve been heading out to explore and today, to run. Beef & Barley Stuffed Peppers

If you are in need of a fabulous meal to serve company, I have one for you!  Every time I’ve prepared this meal, it has been given rave reviews.  I usually at least double the recipe, even if I only make it for my family.  It is an excellent meal to freeze (simply freeze the meat mixture separately from the peppers).  Continue reading
