Adapted from Sue Gregg’s Meals In Minutes Cookbook, this is our favorite cornbread recipe.  You don’t need a grain mill for this recipe, just a blender!  This is a great way to prepare whole grain quick breads if you don’t have a grain mill.

You’ll notice that I use popcorn instead of yellow corn for it.  It is great! Continue reading

Soaked Double Chocolate Pancakes

Do you enjoy breakfast for dinner? We do!  It’s a nice treat once in a while, especially when chocolate is involved.  We also enjoy it as brunch on Saturdays.  I actually made it for dinner recently when we had a guest and it went over very well.  Can you really go wrong with chocolate and pancakes?

I discovered this delectable recipe recently, and it was an instant hit.  I have modified it (just slightly) from the original recipe.  We love it topped with butter and real maple syrup! Continue reading

Squeaky Clean? Not Even Close

E. Coli, Salmonella, Staphylococcus.  Recognize these names?  Bacteria!  Bad bacteria!  Did you know that these menacing bacteria, in addition to yeasts and molds, have been found to live on kitchen sponges (you know, the ones you often clean your dishes with)?!  To make matters worse, one bacteria cell can multiply within 24 hours to more than 8 million cells!  To get sick, the bacteria count for a particular strain can be anywhere from ten to millions of cells.   When counters are wiped with the sponge, the bacteria is spread all over the surfaces where hands and foods touch it. Chocolate Chip Banana Muffins

If you haven’t figured out yet that I love chocolate (my whole family does, I promise it’s not just me!), here’s another opportunity!  I love chocolate.  I especially love it when it’s warm and you can spread butter over it.  Oh my.  I better stop before I start drooling.

If you like chocolate and you like banana muffins, you will probably like this recipe!  It is a family favorite, and when I don’t add chocolate chips, it’s our favorite banana muffin or bread recipe. Continue reading

Frugal Kids Clothes Options

frugal kids clothes optionsI don’t know about you, but it is so hard for me to pay full price for children’s clothes knowing that they will outgrow them in a matter of months.  Then, after paying, I’ll have to pay again when they need bigger clothes.  I already don’t usually pay full price for my own clothes, and I’m an adult whose body is done growing.  This is an area where you can be frugal and save lots of money!  I have a few tips that might help you begin saving: Continue reading

Scripture Memory

Scripture memory is very important to me.  Up until nearly four years ago, regular Scripture memory was not a part of my life.  I went through a very difficult season in which I realized my need to hide God’s Word in my heart.  Listed below is a partial list of reasons why I memorize Scripture.

My purpose in sharing this is not to toot my own weak, rusty horn, but rather, to spur you on to consider implementing this discipline in your own life. Continue reading

Scripture Memory and Kids

“The wheels on the bus go round and round…”

“It’s raining, it’s pouring, the old man is snoring…”

“Mary had a little lamb, little lamb, little lamb…”

Do your toddlers walking around singing these nursery rhymes or songs?  I am amazed sometimes by what I hear my daughter singing!  I didn’t realize that she had a song memorized until I hear her singing it while she is playing.

Imagine if it were that way with Bible verses! Continue reading

Better Than a Starbucks Mocha

better than a starbucks mochaI don’t know about you, but I love mochas.  I know I told you about this already in one of my other posts, but I thought I should let you in on my recipe!  Not only is it yummy, but it is nutritious and much more frugal than going to Starbucks to buy one.  All of these things make it better than a Starbucks mocha to me.  You can still enjoy gourmet coffee but at a fraction of the cost.

Get ready.  This will be a big mocha. You would easily pay at least $4.00 for this at Starbucks! Continue reading
