cultivate your marriage“The heart of her husband trusts in her, he has no lack of gain.” Proverbs 31:12

When you experience progress made with your toddler that excites you, whom do you first share it with?  When you receive good news or something happens that causes you to doubt God’s promises for the moment, whom do you confide in first? Continue reading

Teaching Self Control

teaching self control“A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls.” Proverbs 25:28

“But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.” James 4:3

Most of us, at some point or another, have seen the devastating effects in the life of someone who lacks self-control.  In any area of life, if self-control is not exercised, it can mean very difficult and even harmful consequences.  Sadly, these negative consequences are often not limited to self, but affect others also.

The longer I am a mother, the more I realize what a mirror my children can be for me.  Life since having Brant has progressively become more difficult in some respects while being very enjoyable in others. Continue reading

Teaching Good Manners

teaching good manners“I want that!”  This was a common phrase from Tara a few months ago.  I heard it when she wanted anything.  There certainly isn’t anything wrong with expressing a desire for something, but I knew that I wanted to teach my children more than simply expressing desires.  I want to teach my children how to respectfully and humbly express their desires.  I desire to see them develop a thankful heart.  I realized that teaching good manners is going to involve more than just “please” and “thank you.” Continue reading

Fun Activities for Preschoolers

fun activities for preschoolersAre you in search of ideas for fun activities for preschoolers for times when you need them to occupy themselves?  Whether I’m nursing Brant, putting him down for a nap, or working on chores that smaller hands aren’t quite ready for yet, it has been a tremendous help to have fun indoor activities ready to pull out for Tara to do.  For the past several months, I’ve been building a supply of fun activities to do inside at the kitchen table and others to do while we are outside.  The great thing is that many of these are also great learning activities that don’t necessarily require me there to teach a skill. Toddler Napping Issues

toddler napping issuesI never would have guessed that I would have issues with my toddler napping.  From birth, Tara took wonderful naps.  The ease with which she napped helped make my transition into motherhood easier than it could have been.

Since about a month or so before Brant was born, Tara began fighting naps.  Whether it was due to my growing belly interfering with what I was able to do physically (picking her up and putting her on my lap was increasingly difficult and uncomfortable), a sense that change was coming, or just nearing the age of two, she began having napping issues.  Simply put:  she did not want to take a nap.
